If you are anything like me, you can just look at a loaf of bread, and you can feel yourself start to gain weight. For me, relying on breads as a quick and easy meal leads to weight gain, bloating, and cravings for sweets. The high carbohydrate content negatively affects blood sugar levels and can lead to cravings for other carbohydrate rich foods and snacks. Making the decision to cut bread out of my life was the easy part. The more difficult task was finding equally quick and easy meal replacements for sandwiches, wraps, and pitas. Luckily, there are alternatives! Check out our Try This Tuesday Recipe below for a refreshing and nutritious work lunch alternative.
Lettuce Wraps
1 large lettuce leaf
1/4 of an avocado, sliced
Tomato slices
Cucumber slices
Onion slices
2 pieces of cheese
Place all ingredients in the centre of the lettuce leaf. Roll one side of the leaf over the sandwich ingredients and then roll up the rest of the way. Use a toothpick to prevent the leaf from unraveling.
Feel free to experiment with different combinations. Give egg salad or tuna a try, both are delicious!
