There is truly nothing more satisfying than fresh, local, in-season produce. In Ontario, we are limited to a short growing season, but thanks to a warm spring and summer climate we are still able to enjoy bountiful crops from mid May right through until the snow falls. Here are some of the top local fruits and vegetables you can enjoy this summer, and when you should look for them at your local farmers market, vegetable stand or grocery store.
Asparagus – May and June
Favourite way to serve: Sautéed with olive oil, garlic, and seasoned with sea salt.
Strawberries – June and early July
Favourite way to serve: Dipped in dark organic chocolate.
Raspberries – July-September
Favourite way to serve: Raspberry muffins.
Blueberries – July and August
Favourite way to serve: BlueCoco Smoothie.
Leafy greens – June-September
Favourite way to serve: Garlicky Fresh Baby Greens.
Tomatoes – August-October
Favourite way to serve: Use as an addition to guacamole.
Zucchinis – July-September
Favourite way to serve: Brushed with olive oil, seasoned with garlic, and grilled to perfection.
Cucumbers – July-September

Fresh herbs – June-October
