Plan Your Way to Diet Meal Success
I started off this blog entitled Plan Your Way to Diet Success but “diet” is just such a negative word. Unfortunately, most of us have some sort of negative reaction when we hear the dreaded word D-I-E-T. No matter what your shape or size, you need to eat at least 3 meals per day, so today we are giving you tips to make those meals healthy, refreshing, and easy to prepare.
The key to any successful meal is to have all of the required ingredients on hand, which leads us to our first tip.
Tip #1 – Create a meal plan for the week as you make your grocery list. Purchase the ingredients you will need to make lunch and dinner for a week. Also, check your pantry to make sure you have the necessary staples to prepare your meals.
Tip #2 – Cook in bulk. This is an excellent time and money saver. Make a large pot of soup, chilli, or stew, or a large stir fry at the beginning of the week and take the leftovers for lunch, or make a meal out of the leftovers during the week.
Tip #3 – Make a Snack Drawer – at the office and at home. Healthy snacks include raw nuts and seeds, dried fruit, and homemade granola. More perishable snacks would include vegetable sticks, fresh fruit, or healthy, homemade baked goods. Beware of office coffee runs – its easy to order a donut or muffin with your coffee, but your health will not thank you.
Tip #4 – Schedule “cheat” meals. None of us are perfect, and we don’t expect you to be either. Planning cheat meals will add variety to your meal plan and make you feel like you are not being deprived of the foods that you enjoy. Just try to follow the 80-20 rule – eating healthy 80% of the time, and leaving the 20% for special occasions and vacations.
Tip #5 – Try one new recipe per week. Hint: Check out our Try This Tuesday Blog where we feature a different healthy recipe every week!
