When life gets busy and stressful and you are feeling overwhelmed, how do you react? We have all been through times in our life when we are overworked and overbooked, but it is how we handle those situation that determine if our relationships suffer or not. During times in your career when your job is more demanding of your time and attention it is extremely important to maintain sight of your priorities.
It can be very easy to be consumed with the events of the day that when you get home in the evening, everything is still fresh in your mind. You end up talking about work with your spouse, family and friends and never really feel like you left work for the day. This can cause friends and family members to feel like your priority is your work life.
Your relationship with your spouse and children should be based on the events of the household. Make a conscious effort to leave your work life at the office and focus on enjoying time spent with family and friends strengthening your relationships.
Part of building and maintaining healthy relationships is carving out time to spend with those people that are important to you and giving them your undivided attention. Put down your phone, close your email and enjoy the moments you have been given. Allow yourself to connect with people again on a personal level. Slow down the pace of your life on the weekends and start sharing special moments with the ones you love.
