Healthy eating and desserts mix like oil and water…they just don’t.  That’s why we try to give you healthy dessert options that will boost the nutritional content of your day.  Today’s Try This Tuesday recipe is extremely versatile and can be eaten for breakfast (YES! You heard me!  Dessert for breakfast!), an afternoon snack at work, or as a light dessert to enjoy at the end of the day.

Fruit Crisp

4 cups fruit – blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, rhubarb, apple, blackberries, or a mixture.
1 tbsp pure maple syrup

Place fruit in a baking dish approximately 1 1/2 inches deep. Drizzle maple syrup over fruit.

ToppingApple Crisp

1 cup raw almonds
1 cup of a combination of raw walnuts, raw pecans, and raw hazelnuts
1/4 cup coconut oil
1 tablespoon pure maple syrup

Crush raw almonds, walnuts, pecans, and hazelnuts in a blender or food processor.  Combine melted coconut oil and maple syrup and mix with the crushed nuts. Spread evenly over top of fruit mixture and bake in the oven at 350 F for 30-40 minutes or until golden brown and fruit is bubbling.

The combinations are endless and different fruits can be used as they come into season this summer.  Be adventurous and enjoy this delicious addition to your recipe collection.
