Coconut oil is a natural oil that is extracted from the meat of the coconut. It is high in healthy fat and essential nutrients. Over the years the number of ways that coconut oil can be used has grown tremendously showing just how versatile this product is.
Here are our top 10 ways to use Coconut Oil.
1. Coconut oil is less volatile than many other oils and is therefore able to withstand higher cooking temperatures. It works great in stir-fries, oiled potatoes, and sautéing vegetables.
2. Coconut oil can be used in place of butter and vegetable oil in baking recipes. The mild flavour of coconut oil doesn’t affect the overall flavour of the recipe. Instead, the result is moist baked goods with the added benefit of the healthy fats naturally found in coconut oil.
3. It can also be used in place of non-stick cooking sprays. Simply melt coconut oil and apply with a brush to cookware.
4. Coconut oil has more recently been recognized as an excellent moisturizer for hair, skin, and nails. Applying coconut oil regularly to the skin will create a noticeable difference in moisture and texture.
5. Coconut oil naturally protects the skin from the sun and sun damage. It has an SPF of 4 so it can be used as a sunblock if you are only going to be out in the sun for a short period of time.
6. Coconut oil has anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal properties, making it a perfect candidate to apply to skin rashes, cold sores, psoriasis or any small cuts or wounds.
7. Due to its anti-bacterial properties, coconut oil also acts as a natural deodorant. Melt 2 tbsp of coconut oil and add 5 or 6 drops of your favorite essential oil. Let harden and apply to your underarms for a natural deodorant option.
8. When consumed regularly, coconut oil can help boost energy levels and even help you shed unwanted pounds!
9. It can also be used orally to help whiten your teeth. Spread some coconut oil on your toothbrush and use to polish your teeth.
10. It can also be used as a gentle makeup remover and will moisturize the fine skin around your eyes, keeping your skin youthful and vibrant.
