Coffee and donut on your way to work? Drive-thru muffin? NO THANKS!
It’s time to ramp up snack time in a big way. Chocolate bars, chips, and whatever else you can find at the gas station on the way home from work are all fast and convenient snacks but they add up to huge health problems for our society.
We want you to be prepared for snack time in advance. Store healthy snacks in your desk or car so you have a healthy option no matter where you are.
Today’s Try This Tuesday edition features a nutrient dense, high protein trail mix that will energize your day.
EMPLOYERS: Consider making trail mix and other healthy snacks available in your lunchroom to encourage healthy eating habits and better health.
The key to this trail mix is that all the nuts and seed are raw, meaning they have not been heated, or treated with anything, leaving them in their natural state to give you the most health benefit.
Trail Mix
1 cup raw almonds
1/2 cup raw walnuts
1/2 cup raw pecans
1/2 cup raw sunflower seeds
1/2 cup raw pumpkin seeds
1/2 cup hemp seeds
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup dried apricots, chopped
1/4 cup shredded unsweetened coconut
pinch sea salt
Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Sprinkle with sea salt. Separate trail mix into travel containers or small plastic bags for easy snacks throughout the week.
