Being physically active was always a huge part of my life – whether it was playing sports, working outside on our family farm, or salsa dancing. It was always easy to maintain an active lifestyle.
As I get older, responsibilities have changed and I find it more and more difficult to maintain my normally active lifestyle. The added challenge of cold, wintery weather also puts a damper on usual outdoor activities.
Making exercise a priority has been something I have been working on over the past several months. It means getting up at 6am everyday to fit it into my schedule but it’s worth it. By 6:30 am the endorphins are flowing and I’m wide awake and motivated to start my day. I feel like I’ve already accomplished something on my to do list and that in itself, sets a positive tone for the day.
What’s the key to staying on track? I believe it’s important to find an exercise program that you enjoy and has variety so you are constantly challenging yourself and are never bored. I also believe that an accountability partner helps you push through the days when you are tired, unmotivated, or wanting to quit.
My exercise program has a mixture of High Intensity Interval Training, yoga, Pilates, Zumba, and walking. It is always changing to include new material, workouts, and challenges.
This month I challenge you to develop an exercise program that excites you, motivates you, and will kick your butt!
