How many times a day do you find your shoulders tense, a headache creeping in or an overall sense of pressure and anxiety? Our hope for you is that you never find yourselves in these situations. However, we are going to help you develop healthy habits that act as checkpoints throughout the day to assess your energy and stress levels and minimize the effects of stress on your health.
Meditation has been used for centuries to connect more deeply with oneself, to quiet the mind, and to allow you to be in a state of openness and tranquility. Our breath connects us intimately with life itself and can act as an incredible aid to maintain control of our emotions, thoughts, and wellbeing.
The simplest definition of meditation is to sit and focus on the inhalation and then the exhalation of our breath. Utilizing meditation at work can be very easy and effective at managing the daily stressors that are present in almost any workplace. Set yourself three timers at various times of the day and when the timer beeps, do a quick assessment. How do you feel? Are you stressed, achy, tired, distracted? Take note of how you are feeling, and then begin to connect with your breath. Sit quietly for a couple of minutes and focus on your breathing. Draw the oxygen in through your nose and then back out through your nose. Feel the sensation of the air moving past the tip of your nose. Focus your attention there and feel yourself deeply relax. Developing this daily mini-meditation practice will have you on your way to workplace bliss.
